Sponsors of the Small Government Act to End the Income Tax ballot Inititiative in Massachusetts

Carla Howell and Michael Cloud co-founded the Committee for Small Government in 2001 to place the End the Income Tax ballot Initiative before Massachusetts voters on November 5, 2002.

Carla Howell was Chair, Spokesperson, and General Manager for the Committee. Michael Cloud was Director of Strategy and Communcations and the direct mail fund-raiser.

Carla Howell was also a candidate for Governor in 2002 where she made the case for ending the income tax in four televised debates. In 2000, she won 308,860 votes in her U.S. Senate race against Ted Kennedy. In 1998, she ran for State Auditor, winning the endorsement of the Boston Herald.

Michael Cloud ran for US Senate in 2002 against 2004 Democratic Presidential nominee John Kerry, winning 19% of the vote.

Michael Cloud was C.E.O. of the 2000 Carla Howell for U.S. Senate campaign. In 1996 he organized the Harry Browne for President campaign, and was fund-raiser and advisor for Browne's 1996 and 2000 campaigns. Michael Cloud has been active in politics since 1976 and has raised over $8 million for small government candidates, projects, and initiatives.

Michael Cloud is a speechwriter and the Master of libertarian communication. He writes the Persuasion Power Points column for over 60,000 readers of the Advocates for Self-Government Liberator Online and is author of the powerful new book Secrets of Libertarian Persuasion released in 2004.

Attorney Peter Kuntz was chief counsel for the Committee for Small Government and drafted the legal text for the Small Government Act to End the Income Tax.

Core team members included Carla Howell's Lt. Governor running mate Rich Aucoin.

The Committee for Small Government was a non-partisan, grass roots organization with thousands of generous and enthusiastic volunteers and donors who made it possible to put this Initiative on the ballot.
