Carla Howell's Multi-Billion Dollar Offer to Mitt Romney
Monday, November 11th
On November 11th, Carla Howell approached Governor-Elect Mitt Romney with a proposal to give back Billions and
Billions of dollars to Massachusetts taxpayers - without raiding the government "rainy day funds," without
borrowing money, and while balancing the budget.
The Committee for Small Government faxed Ms. Howell's proposal to the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Associated
Press, the Big Boston TV News Rooms, and every major media outlet in Massachusetts. They also distributed it to
national media outlets.
Carla Howell made Mitt Romney an offer too good to refuse. Here it is:
November 11, 2002
Governor-Elect Mitt Romney
Dear Mr. Romney,
The 881,738 votes to End the Income Tax in Massachusetts stunned the organizations that did polling for the
Boston Globe, Boston Herald, and WHDH-TV.
Mainstream political commentators and the political establishment were shocked by our 45.4%.
These 881,738 voters authorized and demanded massive cuts in Massachusetts government spending, a huge cut in
Massachusetts taxes.
Although you opposed my Ballot Question 1 to End the Income Tax in Massachusetts, we must put aside our
differences to help your Administration cut state government spending by at least $2 Billion.
We must reduce the back-breaking tax burden on Massachusetts workers.
The newspapers say that you've received over 1,200 resumes from professionals who seek paid positions in your
Administration.
I want to offer you something better. I have the tools and temperament necessary to do a comprehensive
investigation and funding inventory to identify billions of dollars of waste that are marbled into Massachusetts
government spending.
Bring me in as a volunteer, non-partisan friend of the taxpayers. I need only two things from you:
- Free and open access to all financials of every department of government.
- Complete candor and cooperation from all departments.
Give me the authority - and I will show you the waste.
I have a degree in Math, an MBA, and extensive business and cost-cutting experience.
My charge for services: Zero. No salary. No perks. No bonuses. No pension.
Value to the Massachusetts taxpayers: Priceless.
Sincerely,
Carla Howell
The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Associated Press, the Big Boston TV News Rooms and every major media outlet
in Massachusetts IGNORED the story - and continued their blackout of proposals that would benefit the working
people of Massachusetts.
Governor-Elect Mitt Romney? No reply.
